关于游戏

Tune in. Turn on. Live well.

A nice dream. One where you get to choose when you wake up.

There is nothing better.

Supermarket Music is an anime rhythm visual novel set inside a brand new game show. You wake up inside the broadcast. There’s a host in a salmon suit who’s thrilled you tuned in. There’s a frog who introduces himself like a wizard. There’s a band, real songs, animated music videos, and four arrows coming down the screen.

(There is nothing better than a dream.)
WELCOME TO THE SHOW
Hello you crazy kids hi hello hi welcome to Supermarket Music — the show on the TV right in front of you. It’s a brand new game show. Every contestant wins. Every kid at home gets a sticker. Every tired adult gets a couch and a cartoon and twenty-two minutes where nothing has to suck.

That’s our brand promise. Everybody wins. (That’s also our slogan. We worked on it.)

I’m your host. I am the Family Man. It’s my job to keep this family together so get on the couch grab some snacks turn the fan on you got it.

Today’s a little different. There’s a journalist who showed up. Her name is Special Feature — capital S, capital F, that’s actually her name. She woke up in something called the Purple Room and she doesn’t quite know what’s going on yet. Don’t worry about it. Frub Bub’s with her. She’s gonna do great.

Show’s starting in three… two…
HIT THE BEAT. DON’T HIT THE BLACK ONES.
Four arrows. Up, down, left, right. They come down with the song. You hit them with the song. Not complicated. You’ll get it.

The songs are the cartoons. Every one. While the band plays, the cartoon plays — that’s what the audience is tuning in for. That’s what you’re tuning in for too, technically.

Sometimes black arrows show up where the colored ones should be.

SPECIAL FEATURE: Wait. What are those?

Don’t hit those. Those aren’t part of the song. Those are — (let me try to say this right) — those are something Special Feature and I are working through over here. You can probably see it happening behind us right now. The static. The way the picture’s coming apart a little. When you hit one, it’s like we lose our place for a second. Hit enough of them and we lose more than our place.

SPECIAL FEATURE: What does that mean?

Don’t worry about it. Keep the rhythm. Keep the rhythm and we keep the show. (We got this. Probably.)
EVERYBODY KNOWS
Welcome to the data ro

Hi. Sorry. Trying a thing. Doesn’t work.

OK look — every choice you make in there, somebody hears it. Maybe Family Man. Maybe Special Feature. Maybe me. Maybe somebody you haven’t met yet, who probably shouldn’t be listening, but they are listening, so — hi to them too I guess.

When it’s loud you’ll see it. “FRUB BUB KNOWS!” flashes in the corner. “SPECIAL FEATURE KNOWS!” Sometimes a name pops up you didn’t expect. Sometimes nothing flashes at all and those are the ones that mess you up later.

By the end of the season the cast knows things. Things you said. Things you almost said. Things you decided not to say. The credits land different because of it.

We call it the Everybody Knows Engine. Mostly because everybody knows. Don’t overthink it. Don’t underthink it. Just pick.

(One of the choices is “have we done this before?” I’m not telling you what it does. I genuinely don’t know what it does. Don’t ask Family Man either, he won’t know.)

(Anyway peace I’m also the prize.)
STAY TUNED
The show airs whether you watch or not. That’s just how a show works.

If you want to skip the story and just play the rhythm, that’s fine. Arcade Mode is its own full game with its own progression — every song, every chart, every difficulty. Pick a VHS off the shelf. The TV flickers on. The cartoon starts. You play.

Beat charts. Chase scores. Unlock the whole album. Never speak to a soul if you don’t want to.

The band keeps playing. The show keeps the lights on.

(For everybody. Especially you.)
