Strata is a visual, node-based heightmap authoring tool designed for game developers and environment artists who want procedural power without writing a single line of code.

Connect noise generators, filters, and masks in an intuitive node graph. Watch your terrain take shape in real-time — then export a production-ready heightmap in seconds.

A Node Graph Built for Terrain


Every element of your landscape is a node. Chain them together, tweak parameters with live sliders, and see the result update instantly in the 2D preview or the 3D mesh viewport. Nothing is destructive — change anything at any time without starting over.

  • Noise Generators — Perlin, Simplex, Voronoi, and Gradient nodes with full parameter control

  • Island Cluster — Place archipelagos and continental masses with scatter, elevation, and shape controls

  • Domain Warping — The Warp node bends terrain organically using fractional Brownian motion, breaking up artificial-looking repetition

  • Thermal Erosion — Simulate natural erosion and sediment flow to give your terrain geological believability

  • Shoreline Mask — Automatically generate masks along coastlines for blending beach, shallow water, and land textures

  • Full Math & Filter Library — Add, Subtract, Mix, Clamp, Power, Invert, Terrace, Smooth, Sharpen, Remap, and more

Real-Time 2D and 3D Preview


Switch between a high-resolution greyscale heightmap view and a lit 3D terrain mesh with a single click. Adjust vertical scale on the fly to evaluate your terrain at any exaggeration level. A moveable export box lets you frame exactly the region you want to export — no guesswork.

Export Ready for Your Engine


Strata is built around the formats and resolutions your engine actually needs.

  • Unreal Engine 5 — Correct landscape resolutions (127, 253, 505, 1009, 2017, 4033, 8129) exported as 16-bit PNG or R16 raw

  • Unity Terrain — Power-of-two-plus-one sizes from 33 to 4097, 16-bit PNG

  • Godot — Power-of-two sizes from 64 to 4096

  • Generic PNG — Any standard resolution for custom pipelines

Export a single tile or divide your world into a 2×2 or 4×4 tiled grid — each tile compiled separately with its own bounds, ready for large open-world workflows.

Splat Maps Included


Add a Splat Output node to your graph and Strata generates a four-channel RGBA texture alongside your heightmap — giving you an instant texture weight map for landscape material layers in any engine.

Normal map export is also built in: one checkbox and Strata computes a tangent-space normal map from your heightmap at full export resolution.

Save, Iterate, Come Back


Your entire node graph saves to a compact .strata project file. Open it a week later, adjust a single parameter, and re-export in seconds. Full undo/redo history keeps experimentation risk-free.
