Forget territory control and rival nations. It Takes a Tribe is a single-player, turn-based strategy game where there are no other tribes to conquer. It is just you against a primal and mythic world.

You lead a solitary tribe made up of several clans. Clans are the units you feed, equip and direct. Plan turns by assigning tasks, managing inventories and plotting migrations. When you are ready, watch the ecosystem react as your choices resolve simultaneously. Over time, steer the whole tribe by unlocking new ideas and committing to unique specialisations.

But be aware that hunter-gatherers do not endure on food alone... 

 

Culture is not decoration. It is identity. It is power.

- Drawn from your journey: Design figurines, monuments, dances and other art shaped by the actual events of your travels. No two tribes are alike.

- Tangible power: Wearing jewellery or sharing fireside stories grants your clans real advantages out in the wild.

- A voice to the spirits: Your art talks to the spirit world. Mythical beings answer in their own ways: some covet your creations, while others fear, steal or trade for them.
 

To stand still is to die. Journey through a fully autonomous ecosystem that thrives whether you survive or not.

- No walls to hide behind: Live off the land. Keep moving to outrun dwindling resources, shifting seasons and ferocious predators.

- A living food chain: Herbivores migrate and breed, predators thin the herds and scavengers pick the bones clean.

- Find your place in nature: Compete with wildlife for resources, hunt them down, leave them in peace or bind your spirits to theirs
 

Magic here is not fireballs. It is the living world itself and it answers only at a price.

- Shamans who bend the world: Lure or scatter herds, spirit-link with animals, uncover hidden land or restore what famine took.

- The veil thins: As your attunement grows, mythical beings manifest. Some help, some hinder, some demand sacrifice, but all reshape the world.

- Power worth building for: Build shrines at ancient trees and other sacred places to strengthen your rituals and deepen your connection to the spirit world.
 

Beneath the emergent stories runs a deeper one. Every tribe plays its part, but no single tribe can see the whole.

- Fulfil tribe destinies: Each tribe follows a different destiny, shaped by its own story and goals.

- Choices echo forward: Fulfil a destiny to unlock new paths and mysteries for future tribes to uncover.

- Worlds remember you: Return to a world your earlier tribes wandered. The mythical beings they met still carry their stories and their art still endures.

- One vast mystery: Unravel the myth of The Wanderer across many playthroughs, or ignore it all and simply wander.
