About game

A card game grandparents and grandkids both know

Žolík (pronounced ZHOH-leek) is a beloved Central European rummy played for generations across Slovakia and Czechia. The Slovak name literally means Joker — and jokers are the cards that make every hand a puzzle.

Now on Steam with friend lobbies, customizable rules, AI bots for solo play, and full Slovak + English interfaces.

How it plays

Build sets (three or more cards of the same rank) and sequences (three or more in a row, same suit), play them onto the table, and lay off cards onto opponents' melds. Be the first to empty your hand each round. Whoever finishes a multi-round match with the lowest cumulative score wins.

Jokers are wildcards — but specific rules govern how they swap, burn, and carry between rounds. The game rewards patience, observation, and the occasional well-timed bluff.

Features

  • 2–4 player online multiplayer — host a Steam lobby, invite friends through the Steam overlay. No IP, no port forwarding.
  • Solo mode vs AI — practice against 1–3 bots offline.
  • Three rule presetsSlow (the classic Central European version), Fast (modern, looser opening), or Custom with twelve tunable rules.
  • Reconnection — drop and rejoin mid-match without losing your seat.
  • Bilingual — full English and Slovak interfaces, switchable any time.
  • Steam achievements — eleven goals tracking wins, milestones, and party tricks.
  • Steam Cloud — your settings, custom rules, and stats follow you to any PC.

Why play digitally?

Žolík has lived around kitchen tables for decades. The digital version isn't here to replace that — it's here for the moments when the table isn't possible. Family across borders, friends in different cities, or just a quiet evening alone. Same rules, same feel, with Steam carrying the cards.
