Simulator Survivors

This game was supposed to be a mere demo for my Unity scripting asset ... but it turned out to be fun.

The Backstory

While building it, I thought it would be fun to mock the survivors-genre by fully automating upgrades as well, replacing the annoying intermission screens with monotonous "you improved" voice-overs.

I threw physics and IK animations in because it's heavily underutilized in the genre. Celebrate the player deaths spectacularly because it's poignant.

Et voilá: Within two weeks I had accidentally created a hilariously frantic core gameplay loop I totally hadn't expect. Now what?? Improve and publish, of course!

After working in games professionally since the 90s (I'm old) this will be my first homemade game.

The Gameplay

You, simulatee, run about auto-shooting an ever stronger horde of enemies spawning around you - the usual.

But here each of the colored loot items dropped by enemies instantly improves one of your four skills. No skill selection - just keep on playing faster, faster, faster ...

Your goal is to survive until the day is over, the boss appears, and that's when you start collecting actual meta-progression loot. But getting to that point takes a bit of exploring, exploiting, and exhaling (try again).

The Roadmap

A fully playable demo will be available for Steam's Next Fest in October 2026.

Early Access release is planned Q4 2026 with a price in the $10 range.

The Disclaimers

Your deaths will be recorded for analysis and mockery. AI is being used to assist writing the commonplace boilerplate code no one should waste time writing anymore. No game developers will be harmed in the comeabouts of your demises. Game developers must abstain from playing this game or face painful consequences (just like everyone else btw)!
