Frostward
About game
Seven settlers stand beside a cart of supplies while the first winter snow catches on the wind. Frostward is a cozy yet ruthless colony sim where every villager is a fully realized person. They fall in love, raise children, learn specialized trades, and grow old. When the harsh winter inevitably arrives, it asks one simple question: did you stockpile enough to keep everyone alive?
Do not let the charming pixel art fool you. A relentless, tick-based simulation drives the entire world beneath that cute exterior. Every single plank is physically carried by a worker, every hearth burns real chopped firewood, every fire spreads dynamically from tree to tree, and every raider comes specifically for the gold you worked so hard to bank.
Every Colonist Has a Story
Your villagers are individuals rather than just statistics on a spreadsheet. The story of your colony is the sum of theirs.
Individual Identities: Villagers have names, unique traits, and specific job skills that improve with practice and rust when unused.
Over 20 Professions: Each workshop requires dedicated roles like Sawyers, Blacksmiths, Brewers, Tailors, and Doctors.
Families and Generations: Couples pair off naturally, children attend the local schoolhouse, and they eventually come of age with a lifelong work-speed bonus.
Tangible Needs: Morale and health rely on physical comforts. Sickness spreads rapidly, exhausted workers need a bed to sleep in, and happiness requires a home with a stocked pantry and a tavern with cold beer.
Winter is a Boss Fight
Three interlocking needs drive your colony: Hunger, Warmth, and Health. Spring and summer offer calm building weather before winter dims the world into a long blue dusk.
Dynamic Weather: Daily rolls determine rain, cold snaps, and blizzards. Lightning storms set real forest fires that jump from tree to tree.
Harsh Seasons: Winter halts farming, accelerates hunger, and violently drains warmth. Villagers who run dry will collapse right where they stand.
Physical Fuel and Heat: Hearths and steam plants burn actual wood chopped and carried by your people. You must build hearth networks and underground heat-pipes to warm entire districts.
Predator Threats: Hungry wolf packs stalk the treeline, hunting for stragglers and wandering livestock.
Defend What You Build
Prosperity draws attention. Thieves slip in at night, and torch-bearing warbands will eventually arrive to take your gold by force.
Muster the Guard: Recruits garrison stone towers, guard assigned posts, and form up at your rally flag when the alarm sounds.
Tactical Melee: Fighters must close to adjacent tiles and hold a second rank. Hits flash and misses splash without relying on messy, stacked unit blobs.
Dynamic Sieges: Enemy attacks scale based on your gold reserves but are capped by your armed strength. Warbands will actively torch buildings and batter through your gates.
Field Medicine: The wounded are not instantly lost. Villagers who fall in combat are carried on stretchers to the doctor's office before their time runs out.
Logistics Worth Mastering
Every single item in Frostward physically exists in the world and requires manual hauling. You control the flow of goods like a true logistics puzzle.
Advanced Storage: Set accept and deny filters per stockpile. Your trade post only opens its doors when its shelves are fully stocked.
Keep-Stocked Targets: Demand that a specific workplace always holds exact quotas of materials, and your haulers will maintain those numbers automatically.
Physical Supply Chains: Wheat becomes beer, deer become winter coats, and raw ore is forged into steel weapons.
Smart Builders: Workers clear the blueprint queue intelligently. A site waiting on stone will never block a different site that only requires wood.
Era Progression: From Camp to Colony
Advance your settlement through three distinct eras, each unlocking new technologies, specialized buildings, and greater threats.
The Settlement Era: Establish your foundation with basic housing, sawmills, hunting lodges, and fishing docks.
The Town Era: Unlock masonry, distilleries, schools, and a bustling marketplace, alongside the military structures needed to protect your growing wealth.
The Industry Era: Pipe steam heat underground to warm entire districts while smithies forge iron ingots and advanced weapons.

A Living, Procedural World
Every map generates procedurally from a seed, creating massive layered biomes ranging from towering taiga forests to coastal kelp beds.
Sustainable Ecosystems: Deer herds and schooling fish breed naturally, requiring careful stewardship to avoid overfishing. Forestry keeps actively replant trees.
World Events: Wanderers will ask to join your town, droughts wither your fields, and sudden sickness tests your medical reserves.
Immersive Audio: The soundscape places every axe fall and anvil ring exactly where it happens. Zoom out, and it all blends into the satisfying hum of a working town.
Customizable Difficulty: Choose from three difficulty presets or adjust fully custom sliders for starting supplies, hunger rates, cold intensity, and hostile encounters.
