Methodology
This page explains how gmCharts interprets and presents player activity so that its charts, rankings, and comparisons can be read consistently.
Player activity metrics
- Current players — the latest available number of players active in the game at the same time.
- 24h Peak — the highest concurrent-player observation during the latest 24-hour period.
- 30-day Peak — the highest concurrent-player observation during the latest 30 days.
Monthly statistics
- Monthly statistics — observations grouped by calendar month to show longer-term movement.
- Avg. players — the average concurrent-player value across the observations available for that month.
- Growth — the absolute difference between the current month’s average and the previous month’s average.
- Growth % — Growth divided by the previous month’s average and expressed as a percentage.
- Peak — the highest concurrent-player observation recorded in that month.
Calculation of the “New” section
The New section on the home page includes tracked games released within the last 30 days that currently have players. Games are sorted by current player count, with the release date used when counts are equal, and the first 10 games are shown.
Calculation of the “Trends” section
Trending considers games with a current player count over 1,000. Games are sorted first by absolute player growth over 24 hours; equal values are resolved by the percentage growth over the same 24-hour period. This highlights meaningful momentum while limiting noise from very small audiences.
Data freshness and limitations
Charts are built from data collected regularly. Collection or upstream availability can occasionally cause gaps. Because observations happen at particular times and update cycles differ, a gmCharts value can be slightly different from the value visible on Steam at a specific moment.
gmCharts provides an analytical view for research and comparison, not official reporting, auditing, financial disclosure, or a guaranteed real-time count.
Steam reviews
Steam review data is shown as a reference indicator of player perception. It adds context but does not measure concurrent activity and should not be read as a complete evaluation of a game.
Independent project disclaimer
Metric definitions and calculations are maintained by gmCharts for a consistent analytical presentation.
